Louis John Barletta (born January 28, 1956) is an American politician and businessman who served as the U.S. representative for Pennsylvania's 11th congressional district from 2011 to 2019. A member of the Republican Party, he previously served as mayor of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, from 2000 to 2010. As mayor, he came to prominence due to a high-profile immigration ordinance that spurred legal challenges and was later found unconstitutional, resulting in the city no longer enforcing the ordinance. During his tenure, he challenged longtime Democratic incumbent Paul Kanjorski of the 11th congressional district three times. In 2010, Barletta defeated Kanjorski and was elected to Congress. Barletta was the Republican nominee in the 2018 U.S. Senate election in Pennsylvania, losing to Democratic incumbent Bob Casey Jr. by a 13-point margin. In May 2021, Barletta announced his candidacy for governor of Pennsylvania in 2022.
