More Information

Since Missouri has open primaries, every eligible registered voter may select the party ballot of their choice. However, primary voters may select only one party's ballot. Voters who do not wish to give a political party preference may request an issues only ballot, if one is available in that particular jurisdiction.

You can vote by absentee ballot in Missouri if:

  • You will be absent from your voting jurisdiction on Election Day
  • You are incapacitated or confined due to illness or physical disability, or caring for an incapacitated person
  • You are restricted by religious belief or practice
  • You are employed by Election Day authority
  • You are incarcerated but have retained all your voting qualifications
  • Certified participation in the address confidentiality program established under sections 589.660 to 589.681 because of safety concerns

If you are voting in person in Missouri, you must present one of the following forms of photo ID at the time you vote:

  • Non-expired Missouri driver’s license
  • Non-expired Missouri nondriver’s license
  • Other photo ID with expiration date issued by the United States or the state of Missouri;
  • Military ID
  • Voter registration card
  • Paycheck or government check
  • Utility bill
  • Bank Statement
  • Missouri Student ID
  • Other government ID or document showing your address

If you do not have an acceptable form of ID, you may cast a provisional ballot, which will be counted if you come back to the poll and show a photo ID or if the signature on your ballot matches the signature you have on file in the voter registry. You will receive a stub from your provisional ballot with instructions on how to verify that your ballot is counted.
